Throughout history, indigenous people have known about the great healing power in ancestral medicines. Whether it be for physical, mental or spiritual ailments, Mother Earth provides all the healing we need.

The Ancestral Medicines that we share at our Arkana Ayahuasca Retreat Centers include; San Pedroor "Huachuma" (originally from the Andes Mountains of Peru) Kambo, or "Frog Venom". Which is a secretion from the bright green giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicoloralso known as the giant leaf frog) that lives in the north-west area of the Amazon rain forest. Sapo, or also known as "Bufo" is the secretions of the Sonoran Desert Toad which contain an extremely potent and powerful medicine known as 5-MeO-DMT. Nunu (Rape') which is composed of tobacco, as its primary ingredient, macambo nut, cacao, as well as barks and leaves of numerous medicinal trees from the Amazon jungle. And of course Ayahuasca, or Yage (originally from the Amazon jungle.)

Nutrition as Part of the Healing Process

When working with plant medicines, it is important to adhere to a healthy, clean diet before, during, and after your Ayahuasca retreat. You are what you eat, and this helps to prepare your mind, body, and spirit for your work with the medicine. In addition to entering ceremony in a clean state, it also shows the spirit of Ayahuasca your intention, discipline, and commitment to the process. The dietary guidelines as outlined in the Preparation section of Our Process offer suggestions on what to avoid and what to incorporate in your diet leading up to your retreat.

Maintain a stronger connection to the medicine as you continue on your path of healing and integration

When you leave one of our Arkana Ayahuasca Spiritual retreats and go home, we hope that you will take these practices with you, as they will help integrate your experiences and deepen your healing process.

Long-Term Immersion Program with
Master Plant Teachers

This program is an opportunity to go deeper within oneself, connect more fully with Ayahuasca, and learn the teachings of additional master plant teachers of the jungle.

This is a plant diet done in isolation. A longer-term commitment for those who want to take the next step in their healing journey. In the Shipibo tradition, master plants are considered to be sacred healers and teachers, different plants have knowledge and teachings for different purposes.

Through an isolation diet with a master plant and Ayahausca, one can receive the knowledge of that plant, deepen their own healing, learn how to heal others, and further explore and understand the world of plant medicines.

We can customize your very own retreat. On your own, or separately with a few of your friends, or with a special group, we can arrange that.

If you would like to arrange special trips, or extra days in the area during your stay, we are more than happy to try to accommodate you for any occasion or situation.

Ayahuasca and other plant medicines offer a level of knowledge and power that should be accessed only in the right environment and with the right preparation beforehand, and support during and after the experience. These medicines are far from recreational, and must be treated with the utmost respect and care.

At Arkana Spiritual Center, we make sure our guests feel prepared and taken care of, from the moment they register for a retreat with us, through their whole experience and for months afterwards. Explore each section below to understand the process of working with the medicines, and how we help you have the most fulfilling and transformative experience on your healing journey.

Its important to stick to the Ayahuasca Dieta for as long as you can before your Ayahuasca ceremony. As the medicine will try to clean your body out first before you can receive some of the deeper more powerful healing teachings.

To put it bluntly, if you eat a lot of junk and unhealthy food, you will be doing a lot of extra purging, and who wants that? Also, by abstaining to the Dieta you are showing your commitment and determination to heal with Ayahuasca and the other master plants, its a sacrifice, and shows them the respect and dedication you wish to have during your healing process, which is essential for this work.

Ayahuasca dieta

At Arkana spiritual centers, we show you a whole new world full of exciting creatures, beautiful natural landscapes & soul-opening ayahuasca and other plant medicines, safely.

We know South America intimately and place immense focus on safety and security. Traveling in South America is different than traveling in the first world. Even though the rewards are infinitely larger than the risks, you must be aware of the potential inherent risks that do exist.

When one begins their journey with Ayahuasca, the first step that our shamans take is one of cleansing.

Coming from a world of that tends to contain dense energies, as well as those which the guest brings with them internally, it is often the case that the intention set by the shamans for the first Ayahuasca ceremony is one of cleansing the spirit and preparing it for deeper work in subsequent ceremonies.

To prepare you to dig deeper we offer 3 separate opportunities for you to cleanse your energetic body.

Ayahuasca holds a mirror up to ourselves & projects our internal landscape. Its our journey back home.

Our journey back home – to our true self – can be an uncomfortable and challenging process, inside and outside of ceremony. It may appear that our experience is worsening or getting more uncomfortable. This is an important part of the healing process, and is actually indicative of progress and evolution. It is in these moments that we must trust the process.

The process of Ayahuasca healing doesn’t end with the close of ceremony. What you do with the lessons you learned and the healing you received is what really determines authentic growth, and as a result, integration is as much – if not more – important than the ceremonies themselves.

The earlier you can start to take action on the lessons learned, the better. This includes maintaining a healthy diet, practicing a still mind, connecting to those who will promote your process, taking time for yourself, and engaging fully with the intentions you set for your healing journey.

For over 2000 years, the Shipibo indigenous tribes in the Ucayali region of the Amazon River basin have been considered the caretakers of the jungle.

Previously two distinct tribes, the Shipibo and Conibo, they became a single tribe due to intermarriage and cultural similarities. To this day, they maintain many of the traditions of their ancestors, including the ritual use of Ayahuasca and other plant medicines of the Amazon. With one foot in the past while living in the 21st century, they strive to uphold the wisdom gathered from millenia of living in the richest and most biodiverse region in the world.

The Shipibo have an ancient and time-honored history of shamanism. They work directly with energy to heal all manner of illness and ailments – both physical and psycho-spiritual.

Through years of training, apprenticeship & master plant dietsthey are able to recruit a team of plant-spirit healers to work with their patients’ energetic body and heal any imbalances which manifest physically as illnesses, dis-ease, negative thought patterns, and emotional blockages.

Through access to the spiritual world in the form of Ayahuasca ceremonies, they use energy work and the icaros (healing songs) received from these plants to rebalance the energetic field and “untie” the spiritual knots that contain trapped energies needing to be released. As a result, the patient is able to release these blockages, gaining an awareness and bringing them closer to self-actualization – the facing, transforming, and integrating of their shadow self.

The Arkana Amazon lodge is a jungle paradise located 4 hours from Iquitos, with stunning views & sounds of the surrounding lush jungle.

You can only get to Arkana Amazon Lodge by taking a tranquil boat ride on the Ucayali River. Similar to our neighboring village, Libertad, Arkana Spiritual Center is built entirely on stilts, giving the appearance of floating on water when the river rises during rainy season.

Your home in the Heart of the Andes. Nestled in a picturesque canyon in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, set on the banks of the rushing Urubamba River, this is one of the most serene locations in Peru.

Arkana Sacred valley is our sister lodge to the Arkana lodge located in the Amazon Jungle. Situated at a lower altitude than nearby Cusco, this property not only provides the perfect environment for the healing plant medicines support and relaxation we offer, but is also an ideal base to explore the Sacred Valley and join our expedition to the nearby Machu Picchu. Nourish your body and soul with our holistic therapies and our all healthy cuisine, enjoy a soothing massage or experience the local culture visiting one of the local villages. Slip into the spirit of Andean life.
